EUROPEAN STUDIES

The Sommerhochschule's European Studies program offers 13 courses and consists of two two-week sessions. Six European Studies courses are offered during the first and seven during the second session.

Topics

The European Studies courses focus on the emerging New Europe. They cover political, economic and legal, but also historical and cultural aspects of the multiple transformations the continent is currently undergoing. The program thus offers a concise and up to date introduction to recent developments in Europe which will provide students from different fields of study with additional key qualifications for their future professional work.

Language of Instruction

The language of instruction for the European Studies courses is English. Students must be able to follow lectures, participate in class discussions, and write paper essays and exams in English

 

 

Interdisciplinary Seminars

Each course includes two interdisciplinary evening seminars organized jointly by three faculty members. A variety of programs is planned during the evening seminars. Guest lectures held by distinguished professors and experts from various fields will constitute part of the seminars. Students will also get the chance to watch movies or will be actively involved in group projects and podium discussions at some of the seminars. The seminars offer an additional opportunity for active student participation in interactive group work or class discussions following the lecture or speech.

The interdisciplinary seminars are part of the credit hours and attendance is mandatory. The seminars will take place between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm twice a week.
